Russians are known for their hospitality, but the cultural differences between China and Russia were more significant than Zhang Wei had anticipated. The language barrier was just the beginning; even simple gestures and expressions could be misinterpreted, leading to misunderstandings and awkward situations. Furthermore, Russian cuisine was a far cry from what he was used to in China, making it difficult for him to adjust his diet.

Zhang Wei's financial situation became increasingly precarious as time went on. His scholarship barely covered living expenses, let alone any extracurricular activities or social events that might have helped him connect with fellow students and locals alike. He found himself working multiple part-time jobs just to make ends meet, leaving little time or energy for his studies.

The academic workload at the university was much heavier than anything Zhang Wei had encountered before in China. Not only did he struggle with the course content itself but also with keeping up with reading assignments and writing papers in English – a language he wasn't entirely fluent in yet.

As Zhang Wei's struggles mounted both academically and personally, he began to feel homesick for his family and friends back in China whom he missed dearly during this challenging period of self-discovery abroad. The thought of returning home without having gained anything substantial from his experience weighed heavily on him - all those sacrifices made seemed futile now as if they were nothing more than an expensive lesson learned too late
