These regions' visa agreements are expected to be implemented by the end of the year, but it is unclear which other fields may benefit and how many visas will be provided. rWhat is a "premium visa"? If there are unfilled vacancies in local specialties that do not belong to over 600 job categories on the technical skills shortage list, the government can arrange premium visas independently.

Companies must first prove through nationwide job advertisements that they cannot find workers locally. In most cases, visa holders can obtain permanent residency rights.

"We can enter these premium arrangements that allow us to make very personalized arrangements for specific companies, but essentially it's still the same: A, we prioritize Australians; companies must prove there are no Australians available. B, they still need to meet the standards set out in the agreement." said Mr Tudge.

"Each agreement is unique - a premium one tailored specifically for each company or region, taking into account their special skill shortages and their requirements."

The elderly care worker shortage has been alleviated

Melbourne-based elderly care center Fronditha Care is one of dozens of businesses that have already secured a premium visa agreement to increase staff numbers.

So far, this center has employed 22 Greek-speaking elderly caregivers and obtained an additional 60 special visas known as Temporary Skilled Shortage (TSS) visas to hire more bilingual workers.

"They can communicate with our residents," said George Lekakis CEO of Fronditha Care told SBS News. "They also help pass information on to other colleagues who don't speak Greek."
